The aftermath of the elections

The election results from the 5 states – Delhi, Rajasthan, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh – have surprised everyone. Those who thought that the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks would put Congress in trouble were wrong. Congress won 3 states where as BJP retained 2. The news channel debates say that this time people voted for progress and BJP’s anti-terror campaign (aimed at Congress) did not go well (perhaps because people have not forgotten Kandahar or Parliament attacks yet). After this election the Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit has emerged stronger than ever and going to server her third term as CM; a first for a woman politician in India. The remaining question is, will Advani have to save his prime ministerial dreams for later? Or will he shed his “secular” credentials and go back to Ram Janmabhumi issue?

On another note, I did not see the national media giving much air time for Mizoram even though they were occassionally mentioning the Mizo election results along with others. And I did not see a single politician from Mizoram in the TV studios, or on phone taking part in the election debates. Nor did I see the any shots from Mizoram live or recorded. What do they really mean by the “national” media?
