Election 2009 – The Madani factor
Posted by JoApr 2

The Communist party in Kerala was the only party to openly state that Muslim League is not a secular party. Their reasoning was simple, that Muslim League is a party consists of Muslims alone and it cannot be called a secular party. But it is not a secret that the CPM’s stand against Muslim League is based on League’s long-term alliance with Congress in Kerala.
But this is not the case with PDP or it’s chairman Abdul Nassar Madani. He was accused of
religious extremist activities earlier and was in jail for long. But he was acquitted of the cases against him and looked all changed and new when he came back from the jail. He said his fight would be against the imperialistic forces (read as America) and he will voice for the downtrodden and Dalits of India. But it does not seem all well and good for him.
An investigation into some recent terror incidents reported to have pointed out to Madani’s family. Majeed, an accused in the case of setting fire to a Tamil Nadu government bus in Kochi, has alleged that Madani’s wife Sufiya Madani had called him to avenge for Madani’s treatment in TN jail. Another case is about a Kashmiri militant (recruited from Kerala) who reportedly have had telephone conversations with Sufiya Madani.
These incidents come as an embarrassment not only to Madani’s new avatar, but to the Communist Party in Kerala as well. The Communist party has been against Muslim League for it’s so-called “communal nature”, but have no qualms in dragging PDP to it’s fold. Eyeing on the Muslim votes, particularly at Ponnani in Malappuram district, Madani has become the guarantor of Muslim votes for CPM in the upcoming elections. Many people in Kerala are worried about how this CPM-PDP alliance would influence the legal cases against Madani and his family. Not only that, the CPM allies in the Left front have openly come against an alliance with Madani, particularly the CPI, calling PDP as a communal party.
Madani has admitted that he had taken wrong steps earlier and promised that he would never go back to those days. His new avatar is of a savior for not only Muslims but of Dalits as well. Some people are of the opinion that Madani as a politician is better than Madani of the old days. But not many are sure as there are so many parties and organizations these days that bears the slogans of “anti-imperialism” and “anti-Americanism” and some people doubt that it is not based on an ideological level, but on a religious level. But the CPM is not worried about any of these and anything “anti-American” plus can get some votes would go well with them.
And do not forget Madani’s statements when he came out of jail. He had alleged that almost all party leaders had written to him when he was in jail, requesting his support during the elections. In his first public appearance after his release from jail, he had named leaders from all parties – Congress, CPM and… BJP.

If UDF(suppose to be equally secular as LDF) can take support of Madani and PDP in 2001 elections when many trails were running against him. why can’t CPI(M) take the support of PDP now. Last week I heart Madani saying all the communal riots in Kerala including Marad happened during UDF along with Muslim league tenure. Biggest paradox is UDF criticizing LDF for taking communal support. I feel CPI(M) is just trying to play teh card which has been used by the UDF for a long time. Why should CPM alone bear the label of secularist, no corruption party when INC can do all sort of gimmicks and fund raising techniques and still win elections?

You are right about INC’s hypocrisy. I totally agree with that. That doesn’t whitewash CPM though.

Political parties have to win elections to survive. It is like any business. In the end their strategies reflect the attitude of the people. If the people tend to vote as religious or caste blocks and per the directions of their religious or community heads, they why blame the political parties for devising strategies to take advantage of that. In a functioning democracy like India, people get what they deserve.

The fact of the matter is that both UDF and LDF are playing into the hands of radical islamic terrorists. The thoughts expressed by Mr. Jyothis points exactly to the underlying problem, the mindset of so called educated keralites . The arguement is LDF can do it if UDF has already done it. No one bothers to ask the question whether what they BOTH are doing is right? All they are looking for is to score a point over their opponent. Kerala and India be damned.
The rabid ideology of islamic terrorism will reach critical mass in south india, first in kerala, very soon. Things are going to get ugly. When shit hits the fan, the combined strength of UDF, LDF and their uncles will not be able to bottle the genie. Still there is time. It is upto you ‘prabudha’ keralites to decide whether you guys want to wake up and smell the coffe or keep on playing the bloodt LDF-UDF game.

Why single out UDF and LDF when you talk about communal politics? What about BJP? With Malegaons and an outdated “Ayodhya cause” since it’s inception to the date, do you think they are the “secular”? “Prabudha Keralites” at least know that UDF and LDF are way better than BJP when it comes to the national and state politics.

Ended up again in BJP…!!! Ha ha ha… this is really funny dude. You people are making advani’s task easier. people like u’ll never learn from the mistakes.!!!
But I must appreciate ur courage, hats off to u man!
You criticized Congress…
You criticized Communists…
You criticized BJP…
You criticized Sangh parivar…
You criticized even the Catholic church…
but in all these posts u gave some space for BJP and ended up blaming them as well (very well balanced stuff).
U’ll soon get ur certificate…
ur posts against varun gandhi were brilliant man! I really could feel lots of energy in those posts, I really appreciate ur social commitment, angry young man! But here u definitely lacks the energy u usually hold while writing against sangh parivar/bjp. Ohhh dude i forgot, we cannot compare varun with madani sahib. madhani sahib is a new man now. the stories which are coming out these days are political foul plays, he is a good human being now, he even have christians in his party PDP.

aah….still youth wasting time on poli ‘trics’.who ever we cast vote( looking into the candidate)…party decides whom to be ruled..then our votes are in vein.why can’t we change the strategy….go through it
Choose not to voteSection 49-O of the Constitution:
Did you know that there is a system in our constitution, as per the 1969 act, in section “49-O” that a person can go to the polling booth, confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding election officer that he doesn’t want to vote anyone!
Yes such a feature is available, but obviously these seemingly notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called “49-O”.
Why should you go and say “I VOTE NOBODY”… because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has received “49-O” votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them. This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way, of our whole political system… i

Choosing not to vote is not the way to counter bad politics. We should go ahead and vote for the candidates who have done the most to their constituency without any caste/creed/religion biases.

People of India are in a situation of Desperation due to the Dirty politics being played. No matter how good a candidate is, at the end it is that parties wish that is prevailing.
good example is Mathew T thomas, the reason of his resignation from ministership was a foul game played by the political mafia in JD.He was a good minister in terms of running his dept corruption free. At the end its is lobby who make money from these dept has come out victoriously. “49-0″ is also not going to help either. only judiciary is there for layman’s problem. So a revolutionary movement with the help of judiciary might help!!!

THIS GUY WHO SPAT VENOM IN THE PAST STARTED PREACHING PEACE THESE DAYS. HE IS BORN AGAIN. CPM HAS GIVEN HIM REBIRTH AS A NEW AVTAR. HE WAS THE ONE WHO MISGUIDED MOST OF THE MUSLIM YOUTH OF KERALA. CPM IS AGAINST RELIGIOUS FASCISM. BUT ONLY AGAINST MODI OR TOGADIA ETC. SEE AN AGENDA OF VOTE BANK. IF MAJORITY FORMS A VOTE BANK CPM WILL GIVE REBIRTH TO MODI,TOGADIA ETC AS SAVIOURS OF DEMOCRACY, SECULARISM AND WHAT NOT. A PARTY WHICH HAS FOUGHT FOR THE CAUSE OF THE DEPRIVED HAS FALLEN FROM ITS HEIGHTS. IF THIS POLICY CONTINUES THEY WILL BE PARALYSED UNTIL DEATH.
