Jotheyali from Geetha (cover)

Here is a Kannada song again. It was Sindhuja who had suggested to sing this song. She sent me the lyrics with English translation, corrected many of my diction issues, sent emails back and forth to work out on the mix and finally lend her beautiful vocals for the song. Thank you Sindhu!
Jotheyali is a beautiful song, yet another example of Ilaiyaraja’s amazing talent. The beautiful interludes in this song are a gem of a work. Listen to this and let us know what you think.
Song: Jotheyali (Kannada)
Movie: Geetha
Music: Ilaiyaraja
Original singers: SPB, Janaki
Cover by: Joseph Thomas (Jo) and Sindhuja

Hey Jo,
This’s one of my all time favorite songs in Kannada. Sad to say that we hardly get this kinda songs now in Kannada. If you really want to know the popularity of this song, check with any Kannadiga.
I have heard many singing this song, I think you and Sindhuja made it better than anyone else. Great job, again long way to go..
Sindhuja, If you have the Karaoke for “Olavina Udugore Kodalenu” send it to Jo, a b’ful song by P Jayachandran.
Keep going Jo… u r the best

Lovely song. I think IR later used this tune in a Tamizh movie as well. I think the movie is “Nooravadhu Naal” and the song is “Vizhiyile…”. One of my another favourite songs in Kannada is “Onde usirante…” from Snehaloka.

Jo & Sindhu,
nice expressions!
Awesome choice! One of my favs too..Very well sung! Both ur voices sound sooo good! Beautiful..
Jo, u’ve done a great job with the kannada pronounciation!
Sindhu, in the lines kamana billeruva and jaarutha naavaaduva felt a slight strain in reaching the high notes..nonetheless, absolutely enjoyed!

I have heard the tamil version of this song “Vizhiyile” but hearing the kannada version for the first time. Great work Jo and Sindhuja.

Hey Jo! Like many other people have said earlier, this song is an absolute favorite of mine and so is the movie and the actor. I just feel so warm whenever I hear this song and this maybe a millionth time..I think Ilayaraja did rope in PBS (not sure) for the raaga expansion there which makes for such a fresh addition. The lyrics of the last line of the first stanza goes like “olavina ee mathige, karagi hode notake” which means ‘At these loving words, I melt at your sight’ and you sing ” karediha ee notake” which means ‘at the call of your sight’.
Other than that, a very good effort Jo, excellent work on the diction!

Sundar: Thanks!
Archana: Thank you!
Thanks for the correction on the lyrics too. I don’t know Kannada except for a few things like “ootta aayitha”.
