Picha Vacha Naal Muthal (cover)
Posted by JoAug 16

Perhaps after Kangal Irandaal, this is one song that keeps me hooked to my iPod and I never get tired of listening to it. Such a beautiful, melodious song from Deepak Dev and it seems to be the come-back of Deepak after a short interval. This song is already a huge hit across Kerala. One thing I like about the orchestration of this song is that the vocals do not get miffed in the background music. It has very minimal use of background music so that the vocals is clear when you hear it. And this one is sung by the versatile Shankar Mahadevan and the Shankar – Deepak has made this song forever hit. Here is my humble attempt in singing “Picha Vacha Naal Muthal” from Puthiya Mukham.
Sally is a long time friend of mine and also the elder sister of Jessica, whose song I published in my old blog. Sally thought this song would suit me and requested to sing it. Here is the song for you, Sal.
And many thanks to Rosh for the karaoke track. She knew I love this song and sent me the karaoke. Thanks!

Stupendous rendition, Jo! Really enjoyed every bit of it. This song is a personal favorite of mine too
The interludes reminds me of ” Pranatosmi Guruvayoor….” from Sindhoora Rekha composed in Reethigowla. May be this song might be the in same raaga (not sure

Beautiful song and you have given the full credit to it by singing so good.

Very beautiful, Jo. You did beat Shankar on this one. Since it is a slow one, it is quite easy to pick on accent mismatches, though Shankar had given all the ‘bhava’ it deserves. You gave everything that the original song lacked.
Now the song is complete!

Jo,
I heard it now only. Though this song was a huge hit across Kerala, I was hugely disappointed with Shankar Mahadevan’s performance – especially because of his accent. I wished dasettan sang this song.
Just finished commenting on Youtube about the flaws of this song. It’s not a super duper melody, but surely a decent one. The following are the problems with Shankar.
He pronounces ‘picha vecha’ like ‘puchham’, aasha like ‘fashion’ and not like ‘dosha’. And it should be ’swantham’ not ’sontham’. Also ‘paadaswaram’ is wrong – it’s actually ‘paadasaram’. Rest like ‘naan’ for ‘njaan’ etc can be excused. That’s what Tamil + Malayalam + Hindi can do to your language
Fortunately, you have done an excellent job with your clean Malayalam and crispy voice – well, except for paadaswaram
Way to go jo…

Enikku othiri istamulla paatta ithu ! After a long time something that is so melodious. I wish if Karthik sang this ! But Sankar Ji did justice to the song. Actually Deepak Dev sang this beautiful in SuperStar 2. Also isnt it Padasaram and not Pada Swaram? Jo ,you rendered this beautiful as usual . Also try to do the new song from Kerala Cafe (Kathakal athi ..sagaram, and some beautiful numbers from NeelaThamara )
All the best
Karthika

Hi Karthika, thank you for pointing these out and for your kind words of appreciation.
Haven’t heard the songs from Kerala Cafe, will listen to it and try some of them for sure.
