Kaadhal Kavithaigal (cover)

I feel the pure bliss that only music can give when I listen to a melodious song from Ilaiyaraja. Thanks to Ramya, I got to listen to this beautiful song for the first time. This is my first duet with Ramya, who’s a good singer and got a beautiful voice.

Movie: Gopura vasalile
Music: Maestro Ilayaraja
Originally sung by: SPB, Chitra
Covered by: Ramya & Joseph Thomas (Jo)

    Nice rendition Jo and Ramya!

Do you mean ‘sing’ or do you mean ‘listen’, for the first time?!!!

If it’s the latter, my shock knows no end:-( It is a Priyadharsan flick, one of Ilayaraja’s musical hits, and certainly, one of the top best duets by SPB/Chithra in Tamil.

I am simply speechless. Then this must be one song, avoided on Idea Star on Asianet. It would be lovely to see it done, live. I haven’t even heard Ilayaraja, try it on stage:-( One of the songs, I had wished he did perform at his Chennai concert for Jayatv a few years back.

  • Jo Says:

    Raji: Thanks!

Jana: Yes, have not heard at all! :-)

  • Narayanan Says:

    Jo / Ramya

First – Thanks for choosing a beautiful song, one of the many masterpieces by IR.

Overall – Both of you have done a good job..along with good mixing.

Ramya – Your voice and singing suggested to me that you were shaky. Not sure why. You have an amazingly sweet voice and you sing well too. I think if you throw out the fear, you’ll sound much..better. That said, Your bhavam and tamil pronunciation were good. Great Job.

Jo – Voice is wonderful, great bhavam ( did you understand the words?? :) )..tamil was also good. Feel was really good. Well done.

  • Jo Says:

Thanks bro. No, I did not understand the meaning, but I enjoyed singing it! :-)

how about this opinion in transliterated thamizh:) let me know if you understood it or it drove you nuts ;)

pAttu nallAthAn irunthathu-aanal konjcam theeyal vAcanai adiththathu!

    amutham” vazhi-nthOdum

amutham illai veeRu eethoo col- ungkaL kuralil.

    peNmaNi n-anRaaga pAdinaar.

    vAzththukaL. vAzka vaLamudan.

  • Jo Says:

Okay, here is my try. :-)

pAttu nallAthAn irunthathu-aanal konjcam theeyal vAcanai adiththathu!

“The song was good, but I felt some _____________” (don’t know that part)

amutham illai — “Not Amutham” (what is Amutham?)
veeRu eethoo col- – “Something else ____”
    ungkaL kuralil “In your voice”
peNmaNi n-anRaaga pAdinaar — “The female singer sang well”
    vAzththukaL — “Greetings”
vAzka vaLamudan — This is the most often heard phrase, but I don’t know what this means.

Now let me know where all I messed up! :-)

  • Ramya Says:

Raji, jana – Thanks a lot:)

Narayanan – Thanks a lot :) I realized I could have sung more open throatedly. But the melody of the song did not let me do that n thought it should sound light n soft rather being classical.. But it did nt work out I guess! I was absolutely nt unsure or anything. Its my most fav song!

Vassan – Thanks. Paavam Jo, ipdilaam tamizh la ezhudhina enna seivaar ? Still nt bad Jo. You almost got it. Jo, one observation in ur understanding tamizh. You got the good ones alone:), excepting the last phrase:)!

  • Vassan Says:

    Jo

Your a good sport. Thanks Man.

    > Amutham = Ambrosia

    > vAzka vaLamudan = blessed with a prosperous life

    > theeyal vAcanai (aroma) adiththathu

theeyal a gravy stuff similar to Sambar ! had it once
in a Malayali home! was told its exclusively Malayali. Used
it to denote the Malayalam influence. the theeyal I had
    wasn’t good though.

    Ramya:

the way I wrote the transliterated Tamil is how you type Tamil,
if you are using a phonetic keyboard. Other S.Asian languages
    may follow this as well.

  • Rashmi Says:

Excellent singing ! enjoyed this one too!

  • Jo Says:

    Thank you all! :-)
